WESTERN BUREAU: Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness says the topping out of Tower One at The Pinnacle marks a major step forward for Jamaica’s tourism diversification strategy. However, he insists that luxury development must go hand-in-hand with rebuilding homes, improving public order, and ensuring workers benefit from the sector’s growth. Speaking at the ceremony for Jamaica’s new tallest building, Holness said the Government remains acutely aware of the national mood following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa.

JPS, NWC to waive charges for customers still without service after Hurricane Melissa, says OUR
The Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) and the National Water Commission (NWC) will waive charges for customers who have been without service since Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica on October 28. The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) announced the development on Thursday.
Myanmar military strike kills 34 patients at a hospital
(AP) - An airstrike by Myanmar ’s military destroyed a hospital in an area controlled by a leading rebel armed force, killing 34 patients and medical staff, according to a local rescue worker and independent media reports on Thursday. About 80 other people were injured in the attack Wednesday night on the general hospital in Mrauk-U township, an area controlled by the ethnic Arakan Army in the western state of Rakhine. The ruling military has not announced news of any attack in the area.
KC back in the hunt for silverware
Dethroned ISSA/WATA Manning Cup champions Kingston College (KC) waltzed into the quarter-finals of the Walker Cup knockout competition with a 4-1 come-from-behind victory over St Jago High at the Stadium East field yesterday. KC were led to victory courtesy of a double from Shareef Ricketts in the 44th and 65th minutes. Jamal Fraser (13th) and Jaeshawn Edwards (43rd) were the other goalscorers for the Vassell Reynolds – coached KC. Tahir Edwards scored for St Jago in the fourth minute.
Contract chaos
The administrative arm of the Houses of Parliament has been found wanting as the Auditor General’s Department places the spotlight on a $24-million contract to renovate the Members’ Lounge at Gordon House, as well as procurement breaches in the purchase of 16 air-conditioning units. A special audit was conducted by the Pamela Monroe Ellis-led Auditor General’s Department into the operations of Parliament following allegations of mismanagement at the seat of the nation’s legislature.

President of Netball Jamaica Karen Rosen-Baugh says the Sunshine Girls have settled comfortably into their training base in London and are fully focused on securing a series win against hosts England Roses this weekend. The highly anticipated two-match Horizon Vitality Series will take place at the Copper Box Arena from December 13–14, with Jamaica arriving in England on Tuesday and holding their first training session yesterday. According to Rosen-Baugh, the squad is upbeat and ready for the challenge ahead.
